There are many different chai tea recipes but I like this one’s my favourite as I’ve used plant milk instead of water and added superfood turmeric. It’s a rich flavoursome tea that can be enjoyed any time. This recipe makes one mug, which for me is just enough. You could always make double the amount and warm up the second mug later.

TIP: I’ve used the highest quality ingredients in this recipe but if you struggle to find turmeric root or any of the other ingredients you can use powdered turmeric, ginger etc.
Take care straining the tea as it can easily spill.
500ml plant milk (I used unsweetened almond)
1 cinnamon stick
2 tsp loose tea or one tea bag (use 2 if you like strong tea)
3 slices of ginger root
½ tsp of black peppercorns
4 cardamom pods
1 tbsp coconut sugar/fruit syrup (optional but I find it really brings out the flavours)
1 inch of turmeric root
Place all the dry ingredients and the roots in a bowl and crush to release the flavours. I used the end of a rolling pin to achieve this. Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and on a medium to high heat stir until the liquid boils. Turn down the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Now add the tea and simmer for a further 3-4 minutes. Strain the liquid and drink while hot.
